I would like to present the concept of the “Golden Pyramid” as a means of more uniform and balanced development. For proper macro economic development to take place we have to look micro level issues too. The base of this pyramid consisting of its four sides are given below:
- Individual – the person is the cornerstone of society. Personal or self satisfaction and self interest are key to promoting a thriving society;
- Family – This is the smallest and most cohesive unit of any group in society most serious problems in society can be directly traced to breakdown in families;
- Business – Business organizations are economically the most important units in any development activity if many organizations fail this WILL lead to a breakdown in the economy. As we have already witnessed in the financial meltdown;
- Nation – The country as a whole is an important measure of studying aggregates as macro level decisions will have to be made at this level. However as Sri Lanka is a relatively socialist country the governments hand in even micro level activities can affect small markets especially in terms of taxation policy.
As can be seen from the above national economic development is only one of the issues. The other three and more important aspects of the pyramid or sides of the pyramid are micro level issues but are more important if we are to achieve national objectives.
I hope that you will contributes your own thoughts and ideas on how we can together build the “Golden Pyramid”
